Method and application
The Elios 3 UT payload measures the remaining wall thickness of metal structures by placing a probe in contact with the surface. Measurements are recorded with A-scan data and linked to measurement points on the structure using LiDAR localization. Visual inspection and UTM are carried out within the same inspection plan.
Scope of application
- Visual inspection in tanks, holds and enclosed structures
- 3D positioning and mapping using suitable sensors
- Examination of surface temperature differences using thermal images
- Linking images to the locations of findings
- Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) on metal surfaces using the UT payload
Reporting
Reports include visual records, measurement locations, valid thickness readings, A-scan data and agreed mapping outputs. Limitations relating to visibility, access, surface condition and probe contact are documented.
Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT)
Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT) allow structural elements to be examined without direct physical access by the surveyor. Elios 3 captures images of accessible areas in tanks and cargo holds; its UT payload measures thickness on suitable surfaces. The scope and acceptance of use for class surveys are determined with the relevant classification society.
