Low Location Lighting (LLL)

Low Location Lighting (LLL) systems marking escape routes on ships are inspected, with luminance measurements carried out where included in the scope.

Method and application

LLL systems make escape routes identifiable at low level. The layout, continuity and surface condition of photoluminescent markings are inspected. Luminance is measured under defined conditions; the inspection scope for electrical systems is specified separately.

Scope of application

  • Visual inspection of escape route markings
  • Luminance measurement of photoluminescent systems
  • Recording damage, missing elements and continuity issues
  • Reporting in accordance with vessel and system requirements
Measurement results depend on procedural conditions, including charging illumination and the elapsed time after it is switched off. Criteria are determined by the requirements applicable to the vessel and system.

Reporting

Reports document the routes inspected, measurement points, inspection conditions, results and deficiencies.
