Metallurgical Verification and Analysis

Material properties are verified by measuring alloy composition and hardness. Required pressure and coating inspections are planned under a separate scope.

Method and application

PMI (Positive Material Identification) determines alloy composition using an appropriate analytical technique. Hardness measurement assesses the material's local mechanical response. Methods and references are selected according to material type, surface condition and the property to be verified.

Scope of application

  • Verification of alloy and material identity
  • Hardness measurement suited to the material and surface
  • Hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing under separate procedures
  • Holiday/pinhole continuity testing of suitable coatings
Not every instrument measures all elements; XRF cannot determine carbon content. Pressure and coating continuity tests follow procedures and safety conditions separate from the PMI scope.

Reporting

Reports document the analytical method, measurement points, surface preparation, results and assessment limitations.
